Bio Farma, Trusted To Host an Islamic Countries Vaccine Production Workshop

BANDUNG, November 2016: Bio Farma, a state owned enterprise as an Indonesian Vaccine Producer has been trusted by Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to host workshop on Vaccine Management, to be held on the 3rd floor of Bio Farma’s Exhibition Room, in Bandung on November 15th to 18th 2016.

This workshop will be attended by participants from Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member countries, which have had the vaccine industry and partnering countries who are preparing to make a vaccine for their nations.

Currently there are more than 10 countries who have already declared their presence, which include Pakistan, Turkey, Tunisia, Malaysia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Bangladesh, as well as world institution, such as World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, Islamic Development Bank (IDB), statistical, Economic, and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) centered in Turkey and Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI) headquarters in Geneva.

Bio Farma’s Corporate Secretary, M. Rahman Rustan stated Indonesia trusted  to host the Islamic Countries Vaccine production Workshop. This refers to the meeting of OIC Health Minister in Istanbul, Turkey on November 2015.

According to Mr. Rahman, Bio Farma will prepare as well as possible to succeed the vaccine training program which will be held on November 15th to 18th, 2016. In addition, it will also conduct a number of limited group meetings for Islamic Countries vaccine manufacturers (Vaccine Manufacturers Group) on  November 14th-15th, 2016.

Mr. Rahman also added that Bio Farma will synergy with other stakeholders in order to make the workshop successful, among others are the Ministry of State Secretary as a member of National Coordination Team for South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC), the Ministry of Healh, and NADFC – National Agency for Drug & Food Control (BPOM). The Directorate General of Disease Control and Prevention Ministry of Health (MoH P2P DG, NADFC -National Agency for Drug & Food Control (BPOM), The Indonesian Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (ITAGI), the World Health Organization and Bio Farma will all participate as representative facilitator.

"This vaccine production workshop  will also have a discussion on the methods required to produce a  safety, quality and efficacy of  vaccine" says Mr. Rahman.

A number of sessions will discuss issues related  to self-reliance of vaccine. In addition, at the end of the event will be conducted field visits to see directly the production process, research and development, and Bio Farma’s vaccine production facilities, as well as session to introduce the potential of Indonesia biodiversity, cultural and Indonesia tourism.

Muhammad Fahrurozi, Head of South-South Technical Cooperation and Triangular Division, Bureau for Foreign Technical Cooperation,  Ministry of State Secretariat supports this workshop which is aligned with Indonesian government Nawacita program, which aims to improve productivity and competitiveness in the international market.

Through Indonesian capacity promotion in vaccine production to OIC countries, it is expected that Indonesia's vaccine industry are able to be marketed massively around the world as well as drive the development of Islamic countries.

"In the end, this workshop is expected to generate ideas for transforming and building self-reliance of Islamic countries in producing the vaccine and its use for human health and benefits." he said.

He said Indonesia needs to socialize and share the success with Asian countries, especially Islamic countries to encourage Islamic Countries’ trust to Indonesia.

Bio Farma involvement in SSTC program reveals non state actors strong commitment in promoting Indonesian capacity towards Islamic countries who need it.

"Because Indonesia through Bio Farma is mandated the responsibility as a center of excellence in vaccines and this role has been long performed by the company," he said.

Bio Farma has been chosen because the company has the expertise  and experience in producing vaccines for more than 126 years and its products have been recognized by World Health Organization (WHO).
